You got it all wrong! If anyone’s taught Genesis about stealing guys, it was her best friends, The Terribles–CJ and Tasha!

You don’t know the real story. It’s not what you think. Just read my side of it, and then decide. Okay?

Wendy M. Smith-D'Arezzo - Children's Literature

Using a twist on the teenage diary, including boyfriend problems, identity problems, and the typical angst of young adult females, Clairday conveys the story of Genesis Bell through the use of an online blog, complete with comments from faithful readers. A junior in high school, Genesis has an erratic home life where she acts as a parent to her man-hungry, yet childlike mother and older sister. But these are just side stories to the real issue in her life—did she or did she not steal boyfriends from her two best friends? Genesis' best friends are the most popular girls in the school—meaning that they always get their man and they command adulation and respect from all the other girls. Genesis is not sure how she came to be the third member of this tribe, but over the course of the six weeks covered in this blog she comes to understand that she is not at one with CJ and Tasha. Clairday has given us a character who wants to fit in at school, yet one who has enough belief in herself to develop and pursue her own goals. Genesis also recognizes by the end that having a boyfriend is not her ultimate goal. This is a quick read with some good insights. High school girls will certainly recognize themselves as Genesis explains the mix ups that make her appear to be a boyfriend stealer. 2005, Delacorte Press, Ages 14 to 18.
