Not since the classic Chicka Chicka Boom Boom has there been such an appealing way to teach the youngest child the ABCs while providing a one-minute goodnight story. Of course, Melissa Sweet's animated watercolor, pencil, and collage illustrations may beg for a little more time to match up all the toys with the right letters, and Judy Sierra' s rollicking rhymed story will want to be heard again and again. Okay, so maybe it' s a three-minute story!

So many little letters need to get to sleep! We liked seeing a bunch of zonked-out letters and how they're dealing with their tiredness, often with items that begin with the same letter as them. My favorite illustration is "Q" being quiet as a bunny drawing a "Q" in her notebook while curled on her quilt, followed closely by "T" tucking in her teddy bear near her tea pot while her parents are near an old-fashioned telephone, looking rather tired themselves. "U" hurling off her underwear is pretty good, too. Anyway! Of course the alphabet is sleepy -- look at all the work it does each day.
