The Gulf Coast of Texas is full of stories similar to this one, but Melanie Wiggins tells this with the affection of an "insider". Bolivar is one of the most exposed areas of habitation in Texas, as far as hurricanes are concerned, and every section of this history ends with the same result: near total destruction. Yet the hardy people keep returning. The personal accounts that make up the second half of the book are priceless.
