It's picnic day and we're filling up our grocery cart with our favorite goodies. Wait! Do we have the right number of items to check out at the special 10 Items or Less register? This rollicking rhyme features playful illustrations of children's favorite supermarket staples. From peanut butter and cookies to juicy watermelon, shopping will become an adventure as children count the number of items (up to ten) placed in their shopping carts. Complete with ten press-out pieces and a large fold-out page at the end, young readers can place their items (press-out pieces) on the picnic blanket (fold-out page) at the end of the story. This board book is sure to making counting to ten fun over and over again!
Calmenson’s 1985 book Ten Items or Less gets a new lease on life with an interactive board book format and cheerful new artwork from Christy. A girl with dark frizzy hair helps her mother during a shopping trip, and readers can participate, too, removing 10 cardboard pieces (“milk to drink” and “cookies to munch”) before heading to the express lane. Readers can then accompany mother and daughter on a picnic, as the final pages unfold into a blanket with a space for each item. Ages 1 4. (Sept.)
