Country Details

Serbia and Montenegro have recently announced the formation of a joint independent state. This new country has not been formally recognized by some countries (as yet), including the United States. The world was shocked in 1999 when the massive expulsions by Serbs of ethnic Albanians living in the autonomous republic of Kosovo provoked an international response. It included the bombing of Serbia and the stationing of NATO and Russian peacekeepers in Kosovo. The conflict continues, as it's former leader (Slobodan Milosevic) is now on trial.
