Country Details

Officially Slovakia came into existence on January 1, 1993. For decades the Slovakian people were subjected to domination by stronger political entities, including the Czechoslovak federation, the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Habsburg Empire. Today, as an independent nation, its historic towns and numerous mountain ski resorts are popular tourist destinations.
