Corsica is in the western Mediterranean, 160 kms (99 miles) southeast of Nice, France, and 82 kms (51 miles) west of the coast of Tuscany, Italy. A territory of France, its been ruled over the centuries by the Carthaginians, Romans, Vandals, Goths, Saracens and the Genoese, who eventually sold it to France. Famous for its independent spirit, and its rugged beauty, olive oil, wine and citrus fruit, and as the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte, its major industry is tourism
